‘Oh mein Gott!’
This was the first German I heard en route to Germany, exclaimed by the friend of a guy who’d nicked our seats on the Deutschebahn bus in Prague. I didn’t really think people said this, but such a phrase (along with the rest of the German language) rather amuses me, so it was a good start to my German adventure.

Yesterday seemed to last for at least 2 days, both of them stressful. We said goodbye to half the population of North East England who came to see us off at Newcastle Airport  at around 11am, and then boarded a flight to Prague (I love Prague). I still get really excited about flying, I’ve never really grown out of it – even turbulance brings a smile to my face whilst others (by others I mean Alex) only tremble. Anyway, after landing in Prague (I love Prague, I really do) we jumped in a taxi to the Hlavní Nádraží and went in search of food/drink while waiting for our coach to Nürnberg. When it did arrive I was actually a tad melancholy about leaving, despite only having been there for less than 2 hours. The logic behind this lies in the fact that Prague is einfach genial, and definitely qualifies as one of my top 3 cities.

So the coach took 3.45 hours to get to Nürnberg via Plzen (that’s Pilsen to you), and we arrived about 9pm. Having been arrested and threatened with the death penalty last time we were on the continent for jaywalking, much of our first 15 minutes here were spent figuring out how to cross the road to our hotel. Alex wanted to be German right away, and so having a shower was abandoned in favour of searching for döner kebabs, which are as plentiful here as any good German stereotype would indicate, only not at 10.30pm on a bank holiday Sunday.

Today: got keys from estate agents, moved in, visited Aldi, ate, sat.

Tomorrow I start work, and may write more.

tschüss.

(As the more perceptive of you might have noticed, that’s not German in the title but Yiddish. You may ask ‘why is this?’… well, this is simply because Yiddish is better than German! Good vibes sent to anybody who can translate it.)
